Building Your Own Gear is Half the Fun!

The Elecraft KX1, K1, K2 and K2/100 amateur radio kits capture the excitement of building and operating your own full-featured HF radio. Discover the thrill of building and really understanding your own radio equipment. Imagine the feeling you will get from your first QSO when you tell the other operator that you built it yourself!

"I Can't Believe It's a Kit!"
The
K2 is a full-featured HF transceiver with the options you have come to expect from radios costing over twice as much. Two VFOs with multiple memories, split TX/RX operation, RIT/XIT, full break-in CW, memory keyer, narrow IF crystal filtering, excellent dynamic range and IF derived AGC are standard on the K2.

K2 Transceiver Kit

QST Magazine "The K2’s receiver performance compares very favorably to that of the samples of the high-end radios we’ve recently examined... The fact that a radio in this price class—and a home-built one at that—can stand proudly in such company is a remarkable accomplishment."  From the March 2000 QST K2 Product Review

If you are just getting started, or want another challenge after building the K2, try the new K1-4, our Four Band CW, 5W, transceiver. The K1 is microprocessor controlled like the K2 and it includes a built in digital frequency display and CW Memory keyer. Its low receive current (@58 mA) and light weight (1.4 lb.) make it ideal for portable operation. (Also available in two bands as the K1-2.)

See the March 2001 QST review of the K1 (ARRL Member site)

Mike Elliot, W8KRR:  "My son, KC8MIG, built a K1 and was very impressed. As the ex-chief engineer of Heath, may I offer my congratulations for a kit job well done -- and I should know!"

Comprehensive Assembly and User Manuals
Our illustrated step-by-step assembly instructions include modular assembly and check out of each control, receive and transmit stage. Clear instructions combined with an extensive theory of operation section make the K1 and K2 radios you can easily build, understand and even modify. (You can even download our manuals.)

Easy to Build, Understand and Repair
The Elecraft's wireless design methodology eliminates most point-to-point wiring inside the radio. Boards plug directly into each other to form a clean, rugged and open design. All boards are easily accessible for test, alignment and repair. The K1, KX1 and K2 utilize only through-hole user installed components for easy construction.

Comments on the KX1: "Elecraft set out to develop the ultimate, portable back-packing rig, designed to operate on extremely low current while delivering a robust feature set for serious operation. They succeeded.... This is stealth-HF-to-go in its purest form!"

Lab Equipment Not Required
Both the K1 and K2 include built in test equipment to make alignment and test quick and easy, without requiring a lab full of expensive test equipment. Built in equipment includes a digital voltmeter, ammeter, frequency counter and RF power meter. Microprocessor based self-alignment firmware speeds the testing of your kit.
